Behind the Scenes

well, look at this!

You’ve found my long-running blog archives of “Get Sconed!, where I started documenting my everyday vegan food experiences and culinary projects in 2005 (over at the VegNews award-winning Let’s Get Sconed! on blogspot). It’s far more likely that you can find my recent updates on Instagram as @jdfunks, and as @getsconed on Twitter.

I’m a 30-something freelance professional residing in SE Portland, OR, working as an event planner, marketing communication consultant, writer, and whatever else strikes my interest these days. I’m currently the Conference & Events Director for ComCap, the national conference for community capital advocates and state-based crowdfunding, and the Executive Director of Vegan Iron Chef, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that produces cruelty-free community cook-offs, among other events and programming, including 15+ episodes of the “Mystery Ingredient” podcast series

I’m a disciple of the Post Punk Kitchen and have been a recipe tester for Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s Veganomicon, Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar, Vegan Brunch, Appetite for Reduction,Vegan Pie in the Sky and Isa Does It. Click on the test kitchen tag to check out my experiences.  I’m an original co-author of Stumptown Vegans, one of the very first restaurant review websites (and accompanying podcast series), which was live from 2007-2013, and no continues on as an Instagram account @stumptownvegans and devoted public hashtag #stumptownvegans.

It’s safe to say that I’m open to ideas and opportunities that catch my interest, and can be reached via email at jsconato@gmail.com.
