Behind the Scenes

Welcome to Get Sconed!

Hey, Jess here. I’ve been documenting my everyday vegan food experiences and culinary projects on Let’s Get Sconed!, which then moved here as Get Sconed!, since late 2005, which is now redirected here, to — which really, remains Get Sconed! because try as I might through the years, I wasn’t able to grab that domain and Frank Sinatra’s been stuck in my head.

You can easily find me on Instagram as @jdfunks.

I’m now, somehow, a 30-something living in SE Portland with my lovely partner, our contingent of cats, a love of colorful, local produce, a longing for snowflakes, obsession with cooking, and a growing enthusiasm for hand-crafted mixology while I’m ever-daydreaming about potential events, veganizing nearly every single culinary show and competition, and wandering the globe.

I’m a food writer, reader, event planner, content strategist and developer, supper club co-hort, recipe tester, idea gal, volunteer, and most importantly, someone who doesn’t want to find themselves stuck at a day job ever again. If you’d like to engage my time or pick my brain, you can contact me over hereMy on-going personal projects include: Vida Vegan Con, Vegan Iron Chef, VeganMoFo, and Heartichoke Supper Club.

Want to read more? Here’s my writers page on OregonLive, as an Oregonian NewsPartner.

I’m a disciple of the Post Punk Kitchen and have been a recipe tester for Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s Veganomicon, Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar, Vegan Brunch, Appetite for Reduction,Vegan Pie in the Sky and the upcoming Isa Does It. Click on the test kitchen tag to check out my experiences.

I’m an original co-author of Stumptown Vegans.

I dedicate much of my time as a co-director of Portland’s Vegan Iron Chef  and  Vida Vegan Con.

If you have a question, want to know what not to miss in Portland when it comes to dining and food carts, comment, tip, proposal, product for consideration, consulting request, travel opportunity, or event/opening invitation, please see my contact page,  I’m open to ideas, opportunities, projects and contract work.

If it’s a quick question, please feel free to contact me via twitter: @getsconed. It’s your best bet.

My old posts will remain on blogger.
